I can do the aerobatics, but have not completed any of the air races at all, just cannot control them with the keyboard, they are totally unrealistic in there actions to the controls.

I dont get why some insist in playing with keyboard. Is is a matter of money?
Imagine driving your one car with an keyboard in real lift. Don´t really sound fun to me.

For cars I have a wheel. And for the planes I use this.....

Yes I am very poor, Its paying the service bills for my Nissan R35 - lol

Have now configured my Dads old MS Sidewinder Precision Pro joystick, still have not yet completed an air race in time

Why not start with the aerobatics first. You can train yourself how to steer. Your not so much under time pressure.

I had already completed all the aerobatics as the aircraft respond as expected, its the air race aircraft that are slow to react to the input of the controls.

Try turning of all assists. I heard a couple of players who did that and had way better results. Worth to try.

I finished all of the airraces except the last two. There i was either perfect and to slow or fast enough but missed some gates inbetween. I didn't bother with it longer than needed.

I insist of playing with keyboard because I like playing with keyboard

And I wound never ever buy a separate controller for planes for maximum 10% gameplay of one single game. Btw I'm doing well in the Aerobatics with keyboard
