Chinese semiconductor company Moore’s Threads has released its latest gaming GPU, the MTT S80, based on the MUSA architecture and fabricated on a 12nm process. The MTT S80, which uses the ‘Chunxiao’ GPU, features 4096 shading units and 14 TFLOPs of computing power at 1.8GHz, placing it between the 3060 and 3060 Ti.
There is a catch
The MTT S80 is available for purchase, but with a catch. On JD.com, it must be purchased with the ASUS TUF GAMING B660M-PLUS D4 motherboard, which costs roughly $170 or 1200 RMB. This brings the overall cost of the GPU to $420 or 2999 RMB, with the GPU itself costing just $250 or 1800 RMB.
It does support DP 1.4a and HDMI 2.1
While the MTT S80 may not rival Lovelace or RDNA3, it does support DP 1.4a and HDMI 2.1, equal to the RTX 4090, and DirectX. It is fine-tuned for games such as League of Legends, Diablo 3, Minecraft, and NFS: Hot Pursuit 3.
World’s first GPU to support PCIe Gen 5 technologies
However, it does beat Intel, NVIDIA, and AMD in one key aspect – it is the world’s first GPU to support PCIe Gen 5 technologies. With 16GB of G6 memory, it is expected to deliver good performance at high resolutions. It will be exciting to see if this GPU is reviewed by international sources like Gamer’s Nexus.
